Catering Servers, Bartenders & CaptainsSylvia's Restaurant – Harlem, New YorkThe world-famous Sylvia's Restaurant is seeking enthusiastic, service oriented, and dependable Catering Servers, Bartenders, and Catering Captains to join our Special Events team.About Sylvia'sFounded in Harlem in 1962 by Sylvia Woods, the "Queen of Soul Food," Sylvia's Restaurant is a celebrated, family-owned institution known for outstanding soul food and warm hospitality. For more than six decades, we have proudly served our guests according to the exceptional service standards of "The Sylvia's Way."Position OverviewOur catering staff members help create memorable experiences for guests at private parties, corporate events, community celebrations, weddings, and off-premises events. Candidates must be professional, guest-focused and dependable.All team members must be flexible and willing to assist in different service roles based on the needs of each event.Catering ServersResponsibilities include:Setting up and breaking down event spacesGreeting guests warmly and professionallyProviding attentive food and beverage serviceServing plated meals, buffets, and passed hors d'oeuvresMaintaining clean, organized tables and service areasResponding knowledgeably to guest questionsWorking closely with captains, bartenders, culinary staff, and managementAssisting in other service areas as neededFollowing all food-safety and Sylvia's service standardsBartendersResponsibilities include:Setting up, stocking, and breaking down event barsPreparing alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages accurately and efficientlyProviding friendly, professional guest serviceMonitoring alcohol consumption and following responsible-service requirementsMaintaining a clean, organized, and properly stocked barTracking beverage inventory and minimizing wasteWorking alongside and assisting servers with food and beverage service as neededRemaining flexible and transitioning between bartending and serving duties based on event needsFollowing all applicable liquor laws and company proceduresCatering CaptainsResponsibilities include:Supervising catering staff before, during, and after eventsReviewing event details, timelines, menus, and floor plansLeading pre-shift meetings and assigning staff responsibilitiesCoordinating with clients, event planners, culinary teams, and managementEnsuring proper event setup, service execution, and breakdownAddressing guest concerns promptly and professionallyMaintaining Sylvia's service, safety, and presentation standardsCompleting event reports and communicating important follow-up informationQualificationsPrevious restaurant, banquet, catering, or hospitality experience requiredCaptain applicants should have prior supervisory or event-leadership experienceBartenders must have strong knowledge of classic cocktails and responsible alcohol serviceWillingness to work across service positions and assist wherever neededExcellent communication and customer-service skillsProfessional appearance and positive attitudeAbility to work effectively as part of a teamAbility to stand for extended periods and safely lift up to 50 poundsFlexible availability; including evenings, weekends, and holidaysFood-handler and alcohol-service certifications are a plusJoin the Sylvia's family and help us continue a Harlem legacy built on great food, warm hospitality, love of community, and memorable guest experiences.Sylvia's Restaurant is an equal opportunity employer.
